Ever had to adjust? I have, and still do...
If their actions are laced with "game" or drama-yielding intent, Iadjusted
If it's clear that my happiness or my desire to grow spiritually bothers them, I adjusted
If their expectations are not in line with their likewise actions--can't handle what they so easily dish out, I adjusted
If their seemingly covert "shade" actions became blatant, I adjusted
If I finally accepted who they really are---after years of denial, I adjusted
If functioning as we have in the past no longer lends to my inner peace, I adjusted
If my mindset or my heart space doesn't allow me to fairly and authentically function in their life, I adjusted
These adjustments aren't definitive cut-offs. They are minor tweaks, although sometimes major shifts, to allow me to take better care of me. Yes, it is personal, but I'm not mad or bitter. I simply and prayerfully made minor adjustments---in love, in growth, and in peace. Yes, prayerfully, as I continue to pray for them, and I hope that they pray for me.
In that, life will continue to serve up sporadic awakening jolts. We should expect to learn more about people, as our hearts and minds mature. Whenever we decide to make those minor adjustments, it is because we, once again, are reminded that only our faith in God is our truest peace. It is the best settling exhale in this world!
Father God, please help me to continue to seek You first, as I sort through the emotions and repercussions of making these minor adjustments. Help me to search me, fix me, and adjust my heart, making sure that I fully operate discerningly, patiently, and fairly. Help me to move and shift in Your will, not mine. Please convict my heart and my perplexed spirit to pause and pray, then proceed, as You guide me. Amen.
If I say, “My foot slips,” Your mercy, O Lord, will hold me up. In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul.
