What's Perking Today...

Most days I simply just open the blinds in the living room. For some reason today, maybe because the yard has it's first cut of the season, I pulled the blinds all the way up to soak in a full view. As always, the farm equipment serves up a dosage of growing up the daughter of a farmer in Bertie County, but apparently there was something else...
Looking out the window several times this morning, my eyes kept landing on a fallen tree in my neighbors' yard. It has been there for a while but today was different. That dead tree spoke to me! Much like our spiritual life can be, the tree is dead because it has disconnected from its roots. It has no life because the thing that nourishes it can't provide nourishment--it needs a connector; a horticultural umbilical cord. Watching the wind sway the bushes behind it seemed to represent a spirit (the Holy Spirit), that wants so desperately to give it a reason to stand, to survive, and to live. But it's just there--- stiff, dormant with no hope; no energy; no life; and bare.
My thoughts are landing here...Let's not be that kind of tree! Stay rooted. Stay connected to the source that gives us life, eternally. Yes, the source that makes everyday life doable; that gives us peace in "unraveling threads." Looking again, it certainly appears that there is absolutely no hope for that naked tree, but through Christ Jesus there is always hope for us!! Get connected or reconnected and get life---one that includes intimacy with Our Father, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!! 🙌🏾
And maybe, just maybe---we should ask ourselves each day, "What kind of tree am I going to be today? Disconnected or connected and rooted?" It is a decision! That's what's Perking on this March Sunday...
Peace & Blessings,
