The Rescue

Hearing today's sermon, I was abundantly blessed. The sermon, "Faith For This Fight", seemingly fell intimately into my spirit and effectively saturated my mind and soul. You see, my fights may not be deemed as tough by some in comparison, but in my day-to-day, it still is just that---a fight for peace, patience, love, understanding, growth, good health, and the laundry list goes on. The pastor masterfully carved a very relatable story of Abram rescuing his nephew, Lot (Genesis 14:11-23), that easily and profoundly found resonance with me. It was a powerful and timely message indeed.

Then, there was a song that was sung toward the end of service that touched me in a way that took me back on a journey in reverse gear. I began to think of the many places that I've been and the many things that I've done--- that I'm so glad and grateful to have been delivered from. Yes...delivered. The song's lyrics went a little something like this...

"You have rescued my life

You have rescued my life

And I'm never going back"

What it reminded me of is that there have been and continue to be rescues in my life. I'm not rescued by people, although they may be the conduit that God uses. Make no mistake about it, God is the rescuer! He dispatches the best assembled SOS crew to get me to and through trials, my ragged stuff, and life. Thank you, Lord! I started thinking... If He has rescued me from it, why in the world would I want to go back to it anyway? Why would I want to go back through it? Do we run back to danger? Do we run back to the lion's den? Do we return to the fire to be burned again, and this time, it could be even worse? Do we realize that this time it could be our end? Wow...something to think about; something to reflect on; maybe a decision to be made today, as we rewind the tape.

So, join me in singing (silently or aloud) the lines of that song that truly grabbed me today. Remember and be grateful that a rescue has occurred. Remember that we ain't going back---it's not an option. Commit to the "never".... 🙏🏽

"You have rescued my life

You have rescued my life

And I'm never going back"

Thank you, Phil Thompson, for the song, "The Response." It is my response to a seemingly little, yet very important fight that has happened upon this beautiful journey. Thank you, my great Father, The good-good Father, for rescuing my life---from it all. I trust you with my every SOS---Saved On Surrender (to You). Sometimes, I need a reminder. Today, I certainly did...🙏🏽

🎤 Stop returning to what/who doesn't serve you, your purpose, or your value in this life. Make the fight worthwhile. See the light---in God and in you. Lord, help us to not be so open to losing what we fought so hard to gain; to not backslide or 'moonwalk' to what you've already rescued us from. Amen.

Peace & Blessings,
